Stanford can do more to realize the full potential of the residential experience for our students, and we can be more deliberate in creating residential communities. This need led Provost Drell to empanel and commission the ResX Task Force in spring 2018 as part of the University’s Long-Range Planning process. The Provost charged the task force with developing an overarching vision and articulating a four-year arc for the undergraduate residential experience, including the ideal:

  • first-year housing configuration, 
  • neighborhood concept, 
  • staff structures, and 
  • housing assignment processes. 

The committee submitted its final report to President Tessier-Lavigne and Provost Drell in December 2018 and shared the report with the campus community in spring 2019.  Since that time, students, student staff, faculty and staff have been working together on implementation teams to plan toward a ResX future.
